Temporary anchorage devices, or TADs, are miniature titanium implants that serve as a fixed point from which teeth can be moved. They are a versatile tool in orthodontics, used to enhance tooth movement effectively and comfortably. These devices may be used alongside traditional braces or as an alternative to more cumbersome appliances like headgear.
The placement of a TAD is straightforward and quick. Dr. Boucher starts by administering a local anesthetic to numb the gum and jaw area for a painless procedure. The TAD is then precisely inserted through the gum into the jawbone. You might feel some pressure during the insertion, but discomfort is minimal and should subside within a day.
Post-treatment discomfort can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers such as Tylenol®. However, if pain persists, it’s important to get in touch with our office promptly. Removing the TAD is an uncomplicated process that can be completed in a matter of minutes once your treatment has achieved its goals.
Maintaining the cleanliness of your TAD is as simple as your regular dental care routine. Brushing around the TAD three times a day and using the antimicrobial mouthwash provided by our practice will help keep the area free of complications. If you have any queries regarding the care or purpose of your TAD, our team is ready to give you all the information you need for a successful orthodontic experience.
